The Columbian Squires will be having a meeting on Sunday, April 1, 2012 in the Library, this meeting will cover information missed from the March meeting. The April meeting will be on Sunday, April 22, 2012 in the Library. These are two very important meetings and we are asking that all Squires attend. The Squires Monthly meeting will be in Rms 3 & 4 of the Msgr. Gauthreaux Center on Sunday, March 25th after the 12:00 noon mass. Please plan to attend because we have a lot of items up for discussion!

The Knights of Columbus will have its last Fish Fry of the season on Friday, March 23rd from 11:00am - 7:00pm. Plates are $8.00 and the Columbian Squires will be selling homemade desserts for $1.00. The plates come with Fried Fish, Macaroni and Cheese, Potatoe Salad, Green Beans, Bread and a Drink. All proceeds will go to support the Knights of Columbus community programing.

The Knights of Columbus Columbian Squires will be have an initiation ceremony on Sunday, March 11, 2012 starting at 1:30pm in Rm 7 of the Msgr Gauthreaux Center. If you would like to join, please email Tre Williams at twilliams@smgnola.com.

The Columbian Squires will be selling their famous brownies, homemade pound cake and other deserts on Ash Wednesday and all of K of C fish dinners. The proceeds will support the Squires initiatives. Young males ages 7 – 18 that would like to join the Columbian Squires can visit the Columbain Squires section of the church's website.

The January Columbian Squires meeting will be on Sunday, January 29, 2012 in Rms 3 and 4 of the Msgr. Gauthreaux Center.

Our parish will be raising money to benefit ACCESS Pregnancy & Referral Centers of Catholic Charities to assist women with unplanned pregnancies. Baby bottles will be handed out after each Mass during the week end of January 21st and 22nd. We will need help handing out the baby bottles. This will be one of our Squires’ service projects. If you will be attending mass on Saturday, January 21st or Sunday, January 22nd, please come to the main entrance to the church after communion , and help us pass out the baby bottles.

The St. Maria Goretti Columbian Squires Circle is still recruiting new members. If you are a boy ages 10-18 years old, and interested in joining the Squires. Please come over to the Msgr. Gauthreaux Center Rooms 3 & 4 after the 12:00 noon mass this Sunday, August 28th for information. Our monthly meeting is this Sunday, August 28th after the 12:00noon mass in Msgr. Gauthreaux Center Rooms 3 & 4.

The Columbian Squires is the youth group of the Knights of Columbus. Last weekend, The Squires held their annual State Convention in Gonzales. Two of our young parishioners received awards for their service to the order and community. Glenn Gilyot a recent St. Augustine graduate received a $600 scholarship. Glenn will be attending Xavier University this fall. Kerry Williams, III better known as Tre Williams received the squire of the year award for donating his web development skills to the order. Tre was also elected State Deputy Chief Squire, which is the 2nd highest office in the State. Congratulations to these two young men.

Congratulations to Courtney Slugher and Glenn Gilyot, Jr. They are the Knights of Columbus Council #9415’s 2011 Catholic Youth Leadership Award winners. Both will receive plaques and $100.00 on March 13th at the 12 o’clock Mass. In addition both Courtney and Glenn just recently have won the area competition as well where they both will receive $500.00. Now they are competing for the State Title on April 10, 2011 in Lafeyette, LA. State Winners will receive $4000.00 at the Knights of Columbus State Convention in Kenner, LA on April 29, 30th, and May 1st. Please keep our young people in your prayers.
